This year statics indicate from 1st January to 22March 2026, we have lost over 1,100 Kenyans on our roads; this is an issue that calls for personal responsibility and accountability.

The road is a highly complex social space used by humans, motorised and non motorised vehicles, animals as well as road side infrastructure for safety and information.

Take a pause and think of all the activities happening on roads all at once. It is being used by multiple users at the same time all with different agendas, they is application of unspoken social rules, there is cultural behaviour like overlapping, there is application of emotions like impatience while driving, and dynamics of power; experienced vs new driver, big vehicles/ matatu vs smaller vehicles. These factors make the road an incredibly complex social spaces that is ever changing not forgetting the weather, the condition of the road; lights, potholes all add to this complex interaction.

Therefore, the road is not only transportation channel characterised by signs, humans and vehicles it is a social environmental space that is constantly shifting, highly influenced by the events, human behaviour and decision making. Our actions or inactions, decisions and attitude not only affect us but also those around us.

Be Safe, Be Smart; Be Road Wise. Because every life matters.
